Sunflowers

Sunflowers are fairly larger flowers that are usually yellow. They are native to the Americas, as well. Sunflowers are often seen to be between the heights of five to twelve feet. To grow to their highest potential, sunflowers need to get the right amount of sunlight. The sunflower has a rough, hairy stem, broad, coarsely toothed, rough leaves and circular heads of flowers. The heads consist of about one to two thousand individual flowers joined together by a base. Sunflower oil, extracted from the sunflower seeds, is used for cooking. This type of oil is much cheaper then regular olive oil and also provides ore Vitamin E than any other vegetable oil . Sunflower can be used as cattle food, too. Another interesting fact about this beautiful flower is that their seeds can be sold as food. The sunflower is the state flower in Kansas and is also the symbol of the Vegan Society. There is a record of having thirty-eight different species of sunflowers. The Dakotas, Minnesota, Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, Texas and California are major producing states of the flower. A sunflower grown in the Netherlands holds the record for being the tallest sunflower in the world. It measured to be over twenty-five feet tall.

  1. I think out of all the flowers, they are the most useful flowers. All other flowers are there for looks, and yes, some of them look good, but this one looks good and it can be used for cooking. Did you know that most baseball players eat sunflower seeds while they're in the dugout. A good question for most people that eat sunflower seeds is whether they swallow them or chew and spit.
