Lilac
The lilac plant only consists of about twenty different species. This type of flower is the state flower in New Hampshire and is also known to symbolize love. This type of shrub can also be called the Syringa vulagris. They grow on shrubs that can be up to thirty feet tall, but generally only reach about eight feet in height. Lilac is generally purple, hence the shade of color called Lilac. Lilacs are a very strong smelling shrub that are considered to be very fragrant. A vase of Lilacs can even scent an entire home. This shrub is spring and summer perennial and needs very little care, with the exception of light pruning. This shrub can greatly brighten up a yard, but because it is so vibrant it does not do well in a flower bed or garden spot. The glowing shrub should be given a portion of the yard for itself. Unfortunately, Lilacs bloom for only a very brief couple weeks in the spring. They were grown in America's first botanical gardens and were popular in New England back in the 1700’s. Lilac bushes can live for hundreds of years, so a bush planted at that time may still be around. Lilacs originated from Europe and Asia, with the majority of natural varieties coming from Asia.
